PLEASE HELP IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HORSE NEGLECT, ABUSE & SLAUGHTER

We all know how important the horse used to be in everyday life.  Without a horse you were on foot.  No way to travel.  No way to haul your lumber or move your belongings.  After horses lost their usefulness in our everyday lives they became our companions, friends, family pets.  They became a way of life through rodeo, horse shows & packing.  Eventually, we over bred, we bred not to better a certain breed, but some of us bred to “make a buck”.  Breeding to “make a buck” is one reason we have unwanted horses going to slaughter.  I think we need to STOP the breeding of unregistered horses  & ponies and breed only for a specific reason.  Breed to bring out certain qualities to improve your lines.  DON’T breed to have a foal that you can possibly make a few bucks off of.  You have to think about where that foal may end up. Without proper breeding you don’t know how that foal will turn out.  They are sure cute when they’re young but what about as a yearling or going under saddle when the new owner discovers underlying joint, hoof or behavior problems that were carried through the lines of what was bred.

Please, you may not own horses, or even care for horses directly but I’m sure you don’t want to see them overpopulated & harmed, homeless, starving & scared for their lives on the way to the slaughter house.  So, please report abuse & neglect.  You can also help spread the word on responsible breeding.  If you are going to take on that kind of responsibility, then realize that it’s in your hands to give your horses a healthy happy life.  Vaccinations, grooming, vet checks, pest control, hoof care, oral care, insect control, safe clean environment & facilities, TIME, the list goes on & on.   It’s an expensive list.

Make sure that you have the means before you have the horse.
